No Bidding? Then What?
by Don Sanders
Since our last tip advocated walking away from most bidding situations, then it is essential that you perfect the art of negotiation when discussing price. Using proper body language, as well as choosing the right words, is key to making everyone feel like a "winner." Remember to do these simple things:
Maintain direct eye contact. Looking down at the ground when you are trying to close a sale makes you appear weak.
Smile. Nothing sends a stronger message of friendliness and confidence than a smile; it also encourages openness.
Keep your head straight. A tilted head is a sign of submission and hands in front of your mouth sends the wrong message.
Stand tall. Lean slightly forward to show that you are open and listening. Rocking back and forth on your heels makes you look out of control and nervous.
Use your hands. Doing so makes you look more confident and dynamic when expressing your point of view.
If you implement these strategies, you will increase your chances at getting the price you prefer. As a bonus, you will feel good about yourself and have more energy to pursue the next deal!
Moral of the story:
Let your actions speak for themselves.
